Moments 3D is the iPhone companion app to Depth Media Player, which together display depth photos on the Looking Glass.
Most modern iPhones can take photos with depth data with Portrait Mode. As of writing, the list of compatible models (as per Apple's website) is:
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone XR
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 7 Plus
Most iPhone Portrait Mode photos have depth data associated to them and can be imported into Moments 3D. More information on Portrait Mode photos is available on Apple's support page on Portrait Mode. To import, tap the photo icon from the Album page, pictured here:
To locate photos previously captured using the Moments 3D camera, select by "All Photos" when in the import screen.
Capturing Depth Photos
To capture new photos, select the Capture Photo button (pictured below) and use the camera to take photos. Photos captured with the Moments 3D camera will be automatically saved to the device. Note, these photos are not Portrait Mode photos, so if you would like to import them in the future, filter by "All Photos".
To view photos with depth on your Looking Glass:
Start the Depth Media Player on a computer connected to a Looking Glass
Open Moments 3D on your iPhone
Select an Album
Tap any photo OR tap the play slideshow button (pictured)
- Enter the Connection ID when prompted
Saving Photos to Computer
By default, iPhone photos sent over the app are stored in temporary memory and are deleted as soon as they are not visible in the Looking Glass. To save all iPhone photos, select "Always Save iPhone Photos" from the Preferences menu. To save only certain photos, broadcast the photo to the Looking Glass and select "Save to Playlist":
